Kristen Trubey

Bio Information
Location: San Francisco
School Attended: NCSU
Profession: Unemployed Human Resources Manager
Race: Ironman Canada
Why: I have wanted to do an Ironman for years, and I ain’t getting any younger!
Motivation: During the Wildflower season this year, my cousin Karen, who started the season in remission, was re-diagnosed with cancer and died 3 weeks later. I was doing the race in her honor, but ended up doing it in her memory instead, less than a week after her death. The fight against cancer is personal f! or me, and as I continue to raise money for LLS, I also want to increase the personal challenge for me.
Goal: I’m not sure yet. It’s my first Ironman, so I want to finish the race, but in the first months of the season I will be developing an idea of where I want to be time wise.
Other races: This year: Wildflower Olympic; Trans Tahoe Relay Swim; Maui Channel Swim; Maui Amakua 2.4 mile swim 2005.
Favorite tri gadget/gear items: I’m not much of a gadget girl, so sadly I have to say it’s a specific sports bra that is cool cause it has pockets. And I had this great pair of “race earrings” that I have worn in every event for the past 2 years, but I lost one of them last week taking off my motorcycle helmet. So I’ll be shopping for a new pair of “race earrings” this season!
Favorite Books: Lately I’ve been reading some books on training for an Ironman! But lifetime faves would have to include To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, An Open Heart by t! he Dalai Lama, and The Food Revolution by John Robbins.
Favorite Movies: I watch movies for escapist reasons, so I like my flicks mindless and funny. I loved Best in Show, Dodgeball and Napoleon Dynamite.
Favorite Songs/Artists: Eminem, Indigo Girls, Barenaked Ladies, Lenny Kravitz
Favorite Workout Songs: Cake “The Distance”, Eminem “Til I Collapse”, Elvis “Little Less Conversation”, Secondhand Jive “San Francisco”, Chumbawamba “Tubthumping”
Morning or Evening: morning (are we talking about sex or exercise?!)
Favorite Web Sites: craigslist, hotjobs (lately!)
Favorite Eatery/Restaurant: Olive Bar and Restaurant, Red Box Sushi, Chutney Indian, Dottie’s True Blue (breakfast)
When you have downtime, how do you spend it? On my couch, at a coffee shop, or belly up to the bar at Olive. Generally hanging out with friends.
Tell us two lies and a truth about yourself…keep them guessing!
I have done triathlons on 3 continents.
I have been a teacher, a retail manager, a professional photographer and a rock climbing instructor.
I went bungee jumping in Thailand, skydiving in Canada and hang gliding in New Zealand.

Hi Kristen, long time no see. This Ironman stuff looks much harder than the workouts Brooks Teal put us through back in the day. Good to see you still pushing the limits!!
