This weeks workouts (Week 23)

Congratulations to everyone who came out to Lake Merced today and enjoyed the spectacular weather while completing a tough workout. Both days this weekend presented challenges which you took on and met with success. Good job. Your coaches continue to be impressed with your progress and how strong you look, and also with the fact that you continue to be amused by Pete and Larry’s entertaining chatter during spin. J

With the workouts getting longer and more intense (do you see a pattern here??) your coaches can’t stress enough the importance of nutrition in your performance. On a workout like today (5+ hours bike/run) you should be taking in somewhere between 1200-1400 calories. Look at what you were eating/drinking and figure out many calories you had today. If it’s less than that you will be in a serious calorie deficit, run out of gas and not be able to perform as you should. Take time this week to think about your nutrition – we will send out more info this week as a reminder before our upcoming Boot Camp Weekend.

Speaking of Boot Camp: this is two full days (8:00 AM to 3:00 PM) of back-to-back activities – swim, run, ride, spin and core – with few breaks in between. We design these workouts specifically to push your limits, assess your endurance, see how you plan your fueling, and as coaches observe your technique and performance in all three triathlon disciplines. Be sure to get plenty of rest this week leading up to the weekend, eat properly and hydrate well. Please let us know if you have any questions about your preparation.
