Susan Pope

Bio Information

1. Hometown: Alameda, CA

2. Schools Attended: UCSB, San Francisco State University

3. Current or Coolest Jobs: Coolest job I EVER had was when I worked for Club Med. I have been a ski instructor in Cancun, Mexico, a kayak instructor at La Caravelle in Guadeloupe in the French West Indies, a Golf Hostess in Opio France, and a Landsports Instructor at Djerba La Douce, in Tunisia. When you’re job consists of waking up every morning, deciding which one of your 14 swimsuits to put on and then heading for the beach to open up your kayak hut - it’s a pretty nice life!

4. Races You’ve Done and Would Do Again: Royal Victoria Marathon - my first one ever and a really nice course, San Diego Rock ‘n Roll Marathon - my best marathon experience ever (I never felt like I had to throw-up and that makes for a nice experience and sets this one apart from my previous marathons). And of course, Lake Placid Ironman.

5. Why Ironman/IronTeam and Why Now: Why Ironman? Because it’s a huge accomplishment and one that I’ve thought about for a good 22 years. Why Ironteam? Because I am committed to doing all I can to help eradicate cancer. In addition, I can’t imagine taking on something as big as Ironman by myself. Why now? I am doing it now, because now is as good a time as any to do it. There will never be a moment in life where you wake up one day and say, it’s a perfect time to train for an Ironman. You just have to commit to it and make it happen.

6. Favorite Tri Gear(s): I don’t think I have any favorite tri-gear. You can make something up until I think of something later down the road.

7. Favorite Food/Restaurants: Ramiro and Sons Taqueria in Alameda - they make the BEST burritos around - yeah, you know what I’m talkin’ about.

8. Favorite Vacation Spots: French Riviera, Las Vegas, anywhere in Hawaii, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and The Dells in Wisconsin. Why The Dells, you ask? Because it is home to the best waterparks in America. If you are a wavepool fan, you need to visit Mt. Olympus Waterpark. They have a wavepool with 8-9 foot waves that come crashing down every 90 seconds- it’s insane!

9. Favorite Book, Movie, Web site or all of the above: www.ironteam.net of course!

Favorite Book: I really liked, I Know This Much is True, by Wally Lamb. Otherwise, in general, I have loved and read every Michael Crichton book that has ever come out.

10. What do you like to do when you’re not working out? I love reading, going out to eat, and seeing movies with my sons Christophe and Cameron.

Two truths and a lie

1.  I am an identical twin
2.  I have a black belt in taekwondo
3.  I am fluent in three languages

Dave Stark

Bio Information

1. Hometown: Santa Monica, CA

2. Schools Attended: Santa Monica High School (SAMOHI), Cal Poly SLO, USC

3. Current or Coolest Jobs: Current - Assistant Director of Security @ Citibank : Coolest - Day camp counselor to the stars in Southern CA during college. Took kids to the beach, water skiing, sailing and to amusement parks AND got paid to do it. And I got to drive a monster school bus.

4. Races You’ve Done and Would Do Again: Ironman Coeur d’Alene, Folsom International Tri, Big Blue Adventure Race, Great Ski Race (Tahoe City to Truckee on XC Skis), Scott Tinley’s Dirty Adventures.
5. Why Ironman/IronTeam and Why Now: Because I want to give back to the sport that has given me so much over the last 6 years. Doing so while helping raise funds for such a worthy cause is icing on the cake. It’s time for me to branch out and test the waters in the coaching arena because I’ve always wanted to pursue it as an option when I retire from my current job in about 10 years. Besides, if we decide to have kids, it’s going to be a lot harder to train like this so I’m getting it in while I know I have the time. People who do Ironman with three kids simply amaze me!

6. Favorite Tri Gear(s): I’m a gadget hound, I love my salt-sticks on my TT bike. My computrainer is pretty nifty too. Oh, and my Garmin Forerunner 305, very hi gadget factor there.
7. Favorite Food/Restaurants: Sushi, hands down. I do have a weakness for Mongolian BBQ too.
8. Favorite Vacation Spots: Kauai is a sacred place for me. Lake Tahoe too. Yosemite, just go!
9. Favorite Book, Movie, Web site or all of the above: Book - Plato’s Republic. Movie-Blues Brothers
10. What do you like to do when you’re not working out? I like to spend time with my wife and our yellow labs. We snowshoe in the winter and hike together in the summer. I’m pretty hand with a hammer and drill driver. I like to build things and do my own home improvements. Sometimes I sleep, because of the last workout!
