Frankie - Honoree
Frank was diagnosed with Stage III Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 24. After going through extensive chemotherapy, he has been in remission for 12 years. Frank credits his family and personal relationships with helping him get through his treatments. His family came with him to every appointment, every check up, and every treatment, and still today, 12 years later, they go to every yearly checkup with him too. The three of them are known around TNT as “Team Frankie”.
Two seasons ago, in celebration of his 10th year of remission, he decided to do something unthinkable…… complete a triathlon. At first, he thought he’d race the sprint distance. That thought soon changed when he decided to race the Olympic distance at Wildflower. After Wildflower, Frank knew he could no longer just go back and do his financial advising practice. He needed to take a more active role with triathlon and decided to sell his business.
Over the past season (Spring 2008), Frank once again challenged himself by doing the Wildflower Olympic distance triathlon. Joining him and racing in his honor, was his dad, Frank Sr. (age 61), who also completed the Olympic distance at Wildflower. Frank Jr. followed up his successful Wildflower race with a month more of training and competed in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. So for 2009, Frank could go only go one way …UP. He joined IronTeam and will be going long and doing the Ironman in Louisville Kentucky in August 09.
